Steve Ditzell and Pistol Pete headline Jan. 14 Front Porch Blues Night
For the first time in more than a year, two guitar veterans will team up for an exclusive show in Rockford.
Steve Ditzell and Pistol Pete will headline Front Porch Blues Night Sunday, Jan. 14, at the Irish Rose Saloon.
The two last performed together at the 2005 Guitar Shoot-out at Rockfords Sinnissippi Park, with fellow guitar slingers Dan Voll and Bob Levis.
Since the late 1960s, Ditzell has toured and recorded with Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, Etta James, Fenton Robinson and the late Junior Wells, whos featured on his latest CD, Blues For Theresa.
Pistol Pete, born Benjamin Franklin Newell, shredded his way onto the Rockford scene in the early 90s as a solo artist after stints with several noted blues acts. Newell has had extensive tours of Poland, Russia, Canada and Japan, and also teamed with Junior Wells in the mid-1990s, contributing to the Chicago Blues Jam series of films. His album, 21st Century Bluesman, is the RAMI Hall of Famers fourth release, with a fifth offering in the works on Japanese label P-Vine Records.
Both Chicago natives, Pete and Ditzell have called Rockford home since the 1990s, and both front their own bands. Pistol Pete and The Youngbloods and Steve Ditzells Blue Lightning Band are regular attractions on the Chicago-area blues scene.
The show starts at 8:30 p.m. Cost is $3. The Irish Rose Saloon is at 519 E. State St., Rockford. Dinner reservations and other information can be obtained by calling the club at 964-0480. The Irish Rose is also online at www.irishrosesaloon.net.
