It's so peaceful in the country?

Gloria Gonigam, noted performer, composer and singer will speak at two area libraries: Oct. 20, 2 p.m., North Suburban Library, Loves Park; Oct. 23, 2 p.m., Cherry Valley Public Library District. If you liked Betty MacDonald’s The Egg and I, you’re sure to enjoy the hilarious—and true—story of Gloria Gonigam: how an only child gently reared and newly married, found herself living on three acres of virgin timber without electricity, screens, running water, heat, stove, refrigerator, or telephone. Add a few babies, close encounters with the “beasts,” the story of the day the mice staggered, appropriate attire for entertaining the tax assessor, an updated version of the woman at the well, plus her battle with the elements including lightning, and the outcome is a comedic lecture, proved to entertain people no matter where they live.
