Jackson Elementary celebrates 100 years

Jackson Elementary School, 315 Summit St., will celebrate its 100th year of educational service to the Rockford community from 1 to 4 p.m., May 16, with an open house. There will be additional parking at Camelot Towers with free shuttle service.

Jackson Elementary is the only school building in Rockford to achieve 100 years of service to the community and its children. Jackson School was named after Hon. Charles E. Jackson, a former mayor of Rockford elected in 1903. Midway Village Old School House will re-create a circa 1904 classroom.

All alumni or other persons who have a connection to the building are welcome to participate in this significant event. The school building will be open for walking tours. Refreshments will be served. As an added bonus, entertainment will be provided by world-famous recording artist/flutist Nicholas Gunn.
