Janesville’s Armory offers ‘Hot Summer Nights’

JANESVILLE, Wis.—Although the Drill Hall Theater will not have musical theater during the summer, The Armory will offer a full venue of entertainment and dining.

“Hot Summer Nights” at The Armory start in June. Hot Summer Nights features a variety of entertainment and dining at do-often prices: Wine Pairing Dinners second Wednesdays in Lieutenants Restaurant; Comedy Night with two professional stand-up comedians every Thursday; and Cabaret Night live musical entertainment every Friday on The Patio.

Coupled with the two restaurants, The Bunker Lounge and Lieutenants Restaurant, The Armory will be full of lively activity all summer.

Wine Pairing Dinners highlight the depth of the Lieutenant’s Restaurant’s menu with specially selected menus and chef’s tastings paired with wines of a specific region starting with an “All American Dinner,” featuring California wines June 13.

The remainder of the summer will feature Australian, South American and Wisconsin’s own Wollersheim wines, all paired with extraordinary cuisine. The price for the wine dinner is $44 per person, which includes the dinner, wine pairings, tax and gratuity. Arrival time is between 6 and 6:30 p.m.

Comedy Night at The Armory is sure to please young and not so young every Thursday night. Nationally touring comedians will take the stage starting June 7 with Jeff Havens as the opener and Chili as the headliner. Chili is from NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and is often a featured guest on the nationally syndicated Bob and Tom radio show. The remainder of the summer includes comedians with a variety of comedic styles offering great laughs all summer. The price is $10, advanced ticket sales will receive a $5 coupon to use during Comedy Night. The shows begin at 7:30 p.m. The Armory will feature an appetizer menu and drink specials each Thursday. “Guests can enjoy appetizers during the show or dinner in one of the restaurants before the show, then laugh the night away,” said Jim Tropp, theater director.

Cabaret Night at The Armory is a continuation of the successful Cabaret Nights during the theater season, but offers a twist for the summer. The live musical entertainment will be outdoors on The Patio and will feature a variety of music.

Cabaret Night will continue every Friday at 8 p.m., starting with Mike Boyd on guitar June 1. Summer Fridays will be filled with the musical talents of Lannette Calhoun at the Piano, The Brad Townsend Jazz Trio, The Keith Lienert Steel Drum Trio, and Mike Boyd on guitar. Admission is free, and if the weather does not cooperate the entertainment will move inside to the Bunker Lounge. Theater owner Mick Gilbertson said: “The Wisconsin winters make us appreciate sitting outside dining and having a great glass of wine. What could be better than adding live musical entertainment to it?”
