Dock damage at Rockford Marina: Responding to recent rainfall, Com Eds automatic sensor opened the Fordham Dam in the early hours of Friday, Jan. 14. The river dropped at least a foot and a half, or more, according to the USGAs gauge at the Auburn Street Bridge. Com Eds Paul Callighan said because of the sensors malfunction, the dam was manually closed about 10 a.m., on Sunday, Jan. 16. In the meantime, the river froze at the lowest level, and many fixed docks and boat lifts were damaged as the rivers new ice rose under them when the dam closed.
