Dock damage at Rockford Marina: Responding to recent rainfall, Com Ed’s automatic sensor opened the Fordham Dam in the early hours of Friday, Jan. 14. The river dropped at least a foot and a half, or more, according to the USGA’s gauge at the Auburn Street Bridge. Com Ed’s Paul Callighan said because of the sensor’s malfunction, the dam was manually closed about 10 a.m., on Sunday, Jan. 16. In the meantime, the river froze at the lowest level, and many fixed docks and boat lifts were damaged as the river’s new ice rose under them when the dam closed.
