Legislator wants working families to have a better opportunity to voice their concerns

State Rep. Chuck Jefferson (D-Rockford) announced he will add working family office hours to his regular schedule of office hours during the month of May.

“I increased my office availability last month and found that it helped me have a chance to hear from some constituents who would otherwise have been unavailable to come by my office,” Jefferson said. “I wanted to make sure that everyone who wants to speak with me has an opportunity to do so, whether they are available during the normal hours of business or not, and we had some success in doing that.”

In addition to Jefferson’s regular office hours, which are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Jefferson’s constituent service office, which is at the E.J. “Zeke” Giorgi Center, 200 S. Wyman No. 304, will also be open:

Wednesday, May 11 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Thursday, May 19 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Jefferson, or a member of his staff, will also be available to meet with constituents outside the office. The following are dates and locations for those traveling office hours:

Thursday, May 10 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.—Rockford Library’s Rock River Branch, 3128 11th St.

Tuesday, May 17 from 5 to 7 p.m.—Northwest Community Center, 1325 N. Johnston Ave.

Saturday, May 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.—Rockford Library’s Montague Branch, 1238 S. Winnebago St.

“To be a good legislator, you need to stay in touch with the needs of your constituents,” Jefferson said. “Working family office hours help me get feedback from people I don’t normally hear from who have to balance working fulltime with family, and other obligations. If you need help accessing state services, or if you simply want to speak your mind, I encourage you to stop by.”
