State Rep. Chuck Jefferson, D-Rockford, announced that he will host a town hall meeting for Rockford-area residents April 11.

“My top priority in Springfield is to address the concerns of my constituents and make sure their voices are heard,” Jefferson said. “Town hall meetings are one way of keeping in touch with the community, to hear their concerns and to make sure their needs are represented.”

The General Assembly will not be meeting in Springfield for the first two weeks of April, but Jefferson said he will be spending much of that time meeting with constituents in his district. Jefferson’s April town hall meeting will offer local residents and elected officials a chance to hear a review of the legislature’s spring session, learn more about state programs and services available to local residents, and share their concerns about state issues.

One of the measures Jefferson will speak about is legislation that would allow the Rockford Airport Authority to create a railroad authority as the region seeks to expand commercial and commuter rail service in an effort to spur economic development.

“We continue to work with Winnebago County and Rockford officials to develop this legislation as it moves through the House, and I anticipate a vote very soon,” Jefferson said. “Expanding our local rail service will help us meet the growing needs of our region, and help attract and retain new business.”

Jefferson’s town hall meeting will take place from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, at Patriot’s Gateway Center, 615 S. Fifth St., Rockford.
