Jesse White to kick off Donate Life Month

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White will be in Rockford Friday, April 9, to help kick off National Donate Life Month.

White will participate in a press conference at 2:30 p.m., April 9, at the E.J. “Zeke” Giorgi Center, 200 S. Wyman St. The press conference will help start the state’s celebration of National Donate Life Month.

The Secretary’s 2004 donor awareness media campaign commercials, that feature several children among the thousands awaiting transplants, will also be unveiled at the conference. Speakers include White, Gift of Hope Organ and Tissue Donor Network President/CEO Jerry Anderson, and Rockford Mayor Doug Scott.

National Donate Life Month recognizes the urgent need for organ donation. More than 300 families consented to organ donation in Illinois in 2003, resulting in nearly 1,000 organs transplanted. More than 83,000 people are on a nationwide waiting list for an organ transplant.
