OMAHA, Neb.—The Jodi Beach Trio, a jazz group out of Rockford, was recently inducted into the 2006 Midwest class of the Independent Artist Registry.

Started in 2005 by The Music Phone Book, the IAR is a national talent scouting and referral service that identifies independent artists on the rise, then promotes them to a quarter-million music professionals looking for new talent. Membership in the IAR is awarded to artists based on talent and potential and cannot be bought by artists or their representation.

Beach’s 11 years as a jazz soloist helped her score high marks across the board in the evaluation process, especially in the professionalism category.

Josh Wendell, the director of the IAR, found Beach warm and friendly. “I really had to dig to find any useful critiques when finishing her review, which speaks volumes about her material and professionalism,” he said.

The producer who reviewed her music found Beach and company just as impressive, saying, “This is well-performed and written vocal jazz submission with a lot of style and a nice smooth groove.” He went on to say in the genre, there was plenty of commercial appeal, something important to the major label A&R reps who work with the IAR.

“When I was approached to be a part of the Independent Artist Registry, I said, ‘Why not?’,” said Atlantic Records A&R rep Steve Robertson. “I knew the IAR would be a great way to find artists I may not get a chance to hear. I especially like the way the IAR is structured. Being entirely artist-driven, I know the demos I get will be from serious performers with talent. Finding those bands is my top priority, and it’s not easy.”

As a member of the IAR, the Jodi Beach Trio will receive a one-year endorsement deal, a one-page demo summary sent to hundreds of record label A&R contacts, a dedicated artist page on the IAR Web site, an artist listing in The Music Phone Book, and a six-month membership to Broadjam—one of the largest Web communities for musicians and fans.

The Jodi Beach Trio has won the Best Traditional Jazz Group Award from the Rockford Area Music Industry Awards four years in a row. With the extensive list of upcoming shows, it’s clear they will be a contender for years to come.

The IAR’s national promotion campaign of the Jodi Beach Trio commenced Sept. 25.
