John Moulder is 2nd in Summer Series Concerts

Charlotte’s Web for the Performing Arts welcomes John Moulder in the second of its Summer Series at Sinnissippi Park Music Shell. He will perform 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 28 at the park, 1401 N. Second Street.

John Moulder leads his own group that plays at many of Chicago’s finest jazz clubs. He is a prolific composer whose original works combine an alluring lyricism with harmonic and rhythmic ingenuity. His unique style has evolved from an assimilation of a variety of musical traditions. The integration of spirituality and music is a driving force in his first CD, Awakening (Mo-Tonal Records, 1993) and his critically acclaimed CD entitled Through the Open Door (Igmod/Mo-Tonal Records, 1997). The passion, warmth and sincerity of Moulder’s guitar playing is evident on these recordings, as is his creative artistry.

He has performed with internationally recognized artists such as Eddie Harris, Bob Mintzer, Kurt Elling, Terry Callier, Lyle Mays and Paul Wertico. He has performed at international music festivals such as the Beijing Music Festival, Leverkusen Music Festival and the Chicago Jazz Festival. Moulder plays with a number of groups including the Paul Wertico Trio. He can be heard on the Paul Wertico Trio’s CD, Live in Warsaw (Igmod Records, 1998) and their recent release, Don’t Be Scared Anymore (Premonition 2000). The Warsaw concert, recorded live at the Jazz Club Akwarium, was part of the Paul Wertico Trio’s 1994 European tour. Moulder also plays on singer and songwriter Terry Callier’s recording, Time Peace (Verve Records,1998) and on his most recent release, Lifetime (Blue Thumb, 2000). Furthermore, Moulder is featured with other noteworthy Verve guitarists such as John McLaughlin, B.B. King and John Scofield on the Verve
