July 23 Rockford City Council briefs

Aldermen approved a committee report recommending the award of a $351,705.13 bid to low-bidder Rockford Blacktop, of Loves Park, for citywide alley reconstruction.

A report recommending Hanson Professional Services, Inc., be awarded a contract for Harrison Avenue water-main Phase II engineering in a not-to-exceed amount of $26,616. Hanson is based in Springfield and has a Rockford office.

The city council voted to approve reports recommending approval of requests for Emergency Shelter Grants for 2007, totaling $93,652. If the grants are ultimately approved, the American Red Cross would receive $40,000, Rockford MELD would receive $25,000 and Shelter Care Ministries would be granted $20,932. Smaller grants include $4,000 for PHASE, Inc., and $3,720 for city administrative costs.

In a 9-4 vote, aldermen approved a $115,000, 13-month benefits consulting contract with Rockford Consulting & Brokerage (RCB), Inc. Aldermen Nancy Johnson (D-8), Jeff Holt (D-11) Linda McNeely (D-13) and Carl Wasco (D-4) voted “no.”

Ald. Ann Thompson-Kelly (D-7) was absent.
