FREEPORT—The 22nd annual Stephenson County Agricultural Breakfast will be Saturday, June 23, at the Stephenson County Fairgrounds in Freeport, Ill.

The breakfast, which runs from 6 to 10 a.m., will showcase a variety of agricultural products produced in Stephenson County, including whole hog sausage, beef bacon, scrambled eggs, cheese, coffee cake, milk and ice cream. Orange juice and coffee will also be served.

As a special feature at the breakfast, the Stephenson County Local Foods Task Force, led by University of Illinois Extension, will conduct a press conference to launch a countywide Local Foods initiative to increase awareness of the economic, environmental, and taste benefits of “buying local.” They will also unveil a new graphic symbol that will be used to identify local foods sold by restaurants, retailers, and other food service outlets in the county.

Visitors will be entertained by Dave Ruter Ministries from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and by Steve Sheffey and family from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. At 9 a.m., there will be introductions of the Commodity Ambassadors and Teacher of the Year, followed by the Local Foods press conference.

The first pedal tractor pull of the season will be held with registration at 8:45 a.m. and the pull at 9 a.m. Also, a petting zoo, barnyard bowling, an antique and modern tractor display, wagon rides, silent auction and arts and crafts show will provide a busy morning for all attendees. Educational booths featuring agricultural organizations and products will also be on display.

Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, including retirees, farmers, town folk, agricultural business and 4-H members and leaders are working together to make this a special Stephenson County event.

A donation of $4 per person includes breakfast and all entertainment. Children 5 and younger are free. Handicap parking is available.
