Kantorei to perform at Our Savior’s Lutheran

Kantorei, the Singing Boys of Rockford, will perform a spring concert at 7 p.m., Sunday, May 18, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 3300 Rural St., Rockford.

Acclaimed for their musical discipline, maturity, sensitivity and well-rounded programming, Kantorei represents the finest tradition of boy choirs. Directed by Joel Ross and Diane Rodway Knight, the choir will present a program featuring sacred choral works of Bach, Haydn, Mozart and Durufle, as well as spirituals, folk and world music and a tapestry of American composers including Charles Ives, Leonard Bernstein, Irving Berlin and George Gershwin. Toss in vocal jazz stylings, a bit of barbershop, and a nod to the choral music from the “land down under,” and you have a sampler platter sure to please most any palette.

Now in its 39th year, Kantorei continues to offer boys and young men an excellent musical education while providing opportunities for personal growth. Recent achievements include “Best Choral Group” award and “Album of the Year” presented by the Rockford Area Music Industry (RAMI) Committee in 2002. The choir has delighted audiences locally, nationally and throughout the world, including three successive appearances at AmericaFest, a prestigious festival of men and boy choirs in Minnesota. The choir’s summer 2002 Canada tour included performances in Niagara Falls, Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto. June 2003 will find the choir in New Zealand for an extended two-week concert tour.

Tickets: $10 for adults, $7 for students. Available through Kantorei members, Randee’s Music, 4116 Morsay Dr., Rockford, or by calling the Kantorei business office at 877-8976.
