KANTOREI tours Brazil

KANTOREI, The Singing Boys of Rockford, have added South America to its roster of tour destinations.

The choir embarked on a 10-day tour of Brazil June 18 with 36 choir members, eight chaperones, two music directors and 19 “Friends of KANTOREI.”

The group is sure to have a memorable traveling experience while visiting the exciting city of Rio de Janeiro, the picturesque coastal town of Paraty, and the mountain resort of Petropolis. The choir will perform one concert in each location, in addition to a municipal school assembly while in Rio de Janeiro.

While in Petropolis, the choir will perform a joint concert with the “Coral Canarinhos” Boys’ Choir, and have the opportunity to experience Brazilian customs and culture firsthand while staying in homes of the other choir members. These homestays are often the highlight of the boys’ trip.

“The boys are having fun learning Portuguese,” said Music Director Joel Ross. “We have programmed several pieces by Brazilian composers that promise to add variety and excitement to the concert repertoire.”

Celebrating 42 years, KANTOREI continues to offer boys and young men age 7-18 an outstanding musical education while providing opportunities for personal growth. As Rockford’s “Singing Ambassadors,” the choir has delighted audiences locally, nationally and throughout the world, including tours of Scandinavia, Great Britain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Canada, Japan and New Zealand. The choir has released five CD recordings and has won three Rockford Area Music Industry (RAMI) awards for “Best Choral Group.”

Digital photos will be downloaded daily to the KANTOREI Web site so family and friends can follow the group’s travels. Log on to www.kantorei.com and click on “Brazil Tour.” This year’s tour is sure to be an adventure!
