Kirtan with Ragani May 13 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church

In a special dually-sponsored event, Pranayama Yoga Studio teams with Charlotte’s Web to present Kirtan with Ragani, a nationally-recognized kirtan singer from Milwaukee. This ancient musical art form will be brought to Rockford from 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday, May 13, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 920 Third Ave.

Kirtan goes beyond the musical experience itself and draws on the vibrational energies and tonal qualities of sound to create a healing resonance. Absorb the vibrations, ignite your spirit. Heal yourself, heal the world. The kirtan call-and-response genre has its roots in India, where Ragani studied beside the River Ganges with her mentor, Swami Rama. Don’t miss the rich, velvet voice of Ragani and her band on traditional Indian instruments. Bring a cushion for floor seating; chair seating also available.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Tickets are available at Rockford Area Arts Council, 713 E. State St., 963-6765; The Postal Shoppe, Edgebrook Center, 397-7301 and 2205 S. Perryville, 484-0940; and Pinnon’s IGA Foods, 2324 N. Court St., 962-0131; or by mail with check and SASE, 10928 N. Main, Rockton, IL 61072. For Web information, call 964-2238.
