La Voz Latina hosts College Day Conference

Steve Van De Walle, three-time National Boxing Champion, 1998 All-Armed Forces Welterweight Champion, 1998 U.S. National Boxing Team, and one of the nation’s rising Hispanic motivational speakers, will address students and parents at La Voz Latina Annual College Day Conference from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at 412 Market St.

Rockford Mayor Doug Scott and Marco Lenis, CEO and president of La Voz Latina, will open the conference. Van De Walle, who is also the founder of Quad City PRIDE Youth Organization, will talk to parents and teachers about the importance of overcoming obstacles and aspiring to reach their dreams and goals.

The day’s events include workshops on how to finance your college education, how to write scholarship/admission essays, preparing for college in your high school and how parents can be more involved in their child’s education. The day will also include a panel of college admission counselors and college students and end with a mini-college fair.
