The 2005 leaf season is just starting to arrive. Warmer fall weather and dry conditions have caused the leaves to stay on the trees a little longer than usual. Because of this, Winnebago County will be moving start times for leaf pick-up and open burning.
Areas designated in unincorporated Winnebago County that allow for open burning may begin burning on Nov. 1 through Nov. 30, 2005. This is a two-week delay for open burning due to the weather conditions.
The County will also be delaying the start-up of the 2005 leaf pick-up program for single-family homes located within designated areas of unincorporated Winnebago County until Monday, Nov. 7. Work crews will pick up only leaves. All leaves should be placed at the edge of the pavement no farther than 6 feet away and NOT in the roadway.
Similar to last year, the designated areas as defined above will be divided into separate zones. Zones to be vacuumed will be announced via various media outlets including the Winnebago County Web site and the leaf hotline starting the week of Oct. 31.
As a reminder, residents in single-family homes located in the designated areas of unincorporated Winnebago County will be able to participate in this program by paying the $35 fee. Payment should be made to the Winnebago County Treasurer, 404 Elm St., Rockford, Ill. Payment for leaf pick-up will be accepted at the Treasurers Office through Oct. 31. Please include your name, address, phone and PIN (Property Identification Number).
Any additional questions, or if citizens are unsure of the designated locations, they can call the leaf hotline, 968-LEAF (5323).
