Sounds Of Good News Productions will present its “Let Freedom Ring” free concert in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The program will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 16 at Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center, 415 N. Church St. The public is invited.

The concert will feature the “Young Eagles Soaring” (YES) Inspirational Choir. This is a drug-free music project consisting of multi-cultural talented children (grades 5-12), focusing on excellence in performing arts, academics and character. Original compositions and arrangements promote anti-crime and anti-violence through traditional and contemporary styles and genres. The choir is directed by Mr. Carl A. Cole (Mr. C), head of the music production company, Sounds Of Good News (SOGN).

Principal Dan Danielowski of King Elementary School will also speak at the concert. “We’re going to do some music that will be thematic to freedom and Martin Luther King, and I’ll have some students with me,” he said. “They will do some recitations from his ‘I Have a Dream’ speech. We’re going to do a few of the Martin Luther King songs. It’s appropriate that this celebration will be on Martin Luther King Day. We’re looking forward to it.”

The keynote message will be given by Pastor Joseph Gordon of Miles Memorial CME Church of Rockford.

An opening performance will be given by famed dance instructor and performer Julian Swain. A free-will offering will be taken. Proceeds will benefit the YESIC “Healing Racism” DVD Music Video Project, to be finished between March and May 2006.
