Letter to the Editor: Former mayoral candidate Wilson endorses Morrissey

A few months ago, I was a candidate for Mayor of the City of Rockford. My candidacy was challenged by the incumbent Mayor and his supporters and my right to be on the ballot, and your right to have me on the ballot, was cast aside. I entered the Democrat Primary because I thought the voters in that Primary should have a choice and I felt that there was and is a need for a new direction in Rockford.

I have followed the race and I have talked to both Doug Scott and Larry Morrissey on the issues that face the City of Rockford. Based on those conversations, I have decided to endorse Larry Morrissey for Mayor. I believe that Larry and I share many of the same positions on the issues facing Rockford and I strongly support his approach to these issues.

Larry and I both grew up in Rockford and both of us love the City enough to devote time and energy to making sure that Rockford reaches its full potential. We have the dedicated people and the spirit, but we are currently lacking leadership. Larry will bring real leadership skills to the office of Mayor.

It is time for Rockford to go way beyond its limitations. I urge my friends, family and supporters to support and vote for Larry Morrissey on April 5.

Joe Wilson
