Library celebrates Library Card Sign-up Month

Rockford Public Library has teamed up with Fox 39, Beef-A-Roo and Humpal’s Bike Rack to celebrate September as National Library Card Sign-Up Month—a time when the American Library Association and libraries across the country remind parents that a library card is the most important school supply of all.

The observance of this special library event was initiated in 1987 to encourage public and school libraries to ensure that every child obtains a library card. Studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library, perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use the library as a source of lifetime learning.

Between September 1-29, kids 13 and younger who sign up for a card at any Rockford Public Library facility will receive a coupon from Beef-A-Roo for a free medium-sized soft drink.

The Main Library and each branch will also have entry forms for kids and adults to fill out for a chance to win one of five Fox 39 Kids Club Prize Packs, and a chance to win a bike from Humpal’s Bike Rack.
