SPRINGFIELD, Ill.The stars have come together to make the holidays shine a little brighter for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).
The Lifes A Ball! MADD Celebrity Designer Holiday Ornament Auction was launched Nov. 24 on eBay. Famous celebrities such as Shirley Jones, Jerry Lewis, Bob Barker, Jim Belushi, Jack Wagner, Dennis Franz, Zach Braff, Pat Sajak, Dr. Buzz Aldrin, Maya Angelou, Chicago White Sox Mascot Southpaw, and U of I basketball coach Bruce Weber and football coach Ron Zook, are designing holiday ornaments to be auctioned online to raise funds to support MADDs programs in Illinois. Regional celebrity designers also participating include Chicago Mayor Richard Daley; Illinois State Police Director Larry Trent; Springfield Business Journal Editor Bridget Ingebrigtsen; Capitol Radio Groups Vonda, Liz and Max & Bob; WANDs Elizabeth Moors; Brian Jodice and Mike Mazzocco; The LOOP FMs Hector Soriano; Chicago artists Joseph Malham and Sara Krogul; Springfield College art instructor Maryanne Stremsterfer and students; graphic designer Sharon Hewitt of Hewitt Graphic Design; Web designer Michelle Tjelmeland of e-websmart; and MADD Illinois own Susan McKinney, executive director.
Fans can log on to MADDs Web site at www.maddillinois.org and click on the eBay auction link to bid on their favorite celebritys designer ornament as of Friday, Nov. 24 through Sunday, Dec. 3 at 5 p.m. (Central). Winners will be announced following the close of the auction. The auction is sponsored by Top Dollar USA online auctions, Box & Go, 100.5 WYMG, Cool 101.9 FM and 93.9 ABE-FM, all in Springfield, Ill. All proceeds from the auction go to MADD Illinois to help support education, advocacy and victim services programs throughout the state.
As a nonprofit organization, MADD relies on individual contributions, fund-raising events, corporate sponsorships and grants for funding. Support of the organization includes both monetary and in-kind donations from volunteers, corporations, foundations, federal and state government and individuals, who support MADDs mission to stop drunk driving, assist victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking.
