COPD is the fourth leading cause of death in U.S.
Lifescape Community Services will host a free seminar program called Breathing Better with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema) sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Pfizer, Inc.
The seminar will be at 10:45 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 30 at the Golden Agers Senior Center, 1115 Sixth Ave., Rockford. It is designed for current and former smokers with breathing problems, those diagnosed with COPD, chronic bronchitis or emphysema and anyone interested in learning more about COPD.
COPD is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States. It affects an estimated 24 million Americans, yet only about 12 million are diagnosed with the disease. For people living with COPD, everyday activities can be a chore. Although it can be challenging, there are steps you can take to help you breathe better.
The Breathing Better with COPD seminar features an educational video, and attendees will be provided with information about COPD, including treatment options.
Seniors, aged 60 and older, can reserve lunch for a suggested donation of $2.50. No qualified person will be denied a meal based on inability or unwillingness to pay. The lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. following the video. The menu consists of Turkey Rotini Alfredo, peas, peaches and chocolate cake. Meal includes bread, butter and milk. Anyone who wants lunch must reserve by 10 a.m., Jan. 29.
