Lightning hold free agent camps

Rockford Lightning Coach Chris Daleo, the 2003 Coach of the Year, is looking for players to fill his 2005-06 season roster. Coach Daleo loves to give local talent the best opportunities to make his squad, and that trend continues as Lightning announces tryout camp.

On Sunday, Oct. 9, an open player tryout will be conducted at Cardinal Stritch University, 6801 N. Yates Rd., Milwaukee, Wis. The tryout will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time with registration to begin at 8:30 a.m. The cost of the tryout is $100 for pre-registered players and $125 for on-site registration. The camp is open to the first 50 players. Do not be late.

On Saturday, Oct. 22, an open player tryout will be conducted at the Patriots Gateway Center, 615 S. 5th St., Rockford. The tryout will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time with registration to begin at 8:30 a.m. The cost and limit of players accepted is the same as the Oct. 9 tryout.

Lightning players who have been signed at previous free agent camps include: 2002-03 CBA leading scorer Ronnie Fields and two-time 2002 American Conference Player of the Week David Harrison. Last season, three players came from free agents camps, including Sidney Holmes, Brian Lubeck, and CBA Player of the Week Brant Bailey.

The Lightning open their 20th season in the CBA on the road against Gary Nov. 18 before returning to the MetroCentre Nov. 20 to host the same Steelheads. Lightning season tickets are still available. Only a few Nicholson seats are left.
