Loves Park resident Shirley E. Lucas will read from and discuss her new book Memoirs: A Collection of Short Stories at the North Suburban Library/Loves Park, 6340 N. Second St., at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 22. The inspiration for Memoirs came from Lucas childhood, her marriage, parenthood and life on her own again after the death of her beloved husband.
Some of her adventures include buying a house in Florida, sight unseen; having to swim for her life; and nearly winning a $40 million lottery. She owned and operated her own laminating business for 10 years and is now active with G-Pac and Golden Agers. Inspired by the warmth and humor of favorite author Erma Bombecks stories, Lucas stories include the mishaps of childhood, the struggle to be a good parent and the deep bonds of friendship and marriage.
