Local girl wins international

For five months, children across the United States and Canada have been attempting to answer the age-old question, “Why is your mom a SuperMom?” Today, Rockford resident Ashley Colletti, 12, appears to have the correct answer—or picture. Ashley, a sixth grader at St. Peter’s Elementary, has been named the grand prize winner in The Maids (Home Services’ 2002 Mother’s Day Contest, “Picture Your Mom as SuperMom.”

More than 500 entries flowed into The Maids (Home Services’ headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska. Judges from the Omaha chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Artists selected Ashley’s drawing for the big prize.

The Maids (Home Services and contest co-sponsor, KB Toys (have awarded Ashley and her mother, Rita Colletti-Newton, up to a year of free maid service from The Maids Home Services, valued at $2400, and a $50 KB Toys gift card.

All contest entries were judged based on the artists’ abilities to balance aesthetic, conceptual and technical aspects in their drawing and the overall emotional impact of their pictures. In addition to Ashley, 17 other children won prizes: second and third place received up to three months of maid service valued at $600 from The Maids (Home Services and a $50 gift card from KB Toys (; and 15 fourth place winners received $25 KB Toys gift cards.
