Locals assist with hurricane cleanup

Due to the status of Hurricane Isabel, the American Red Cross has activated the Rock River Chapter Emergency Response Vehicle. The Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) is a specially outfitted vehicle used to deliver food, water and other supplies to affected areas. The ERV was deployed, Sept. 17. from the Rock River Chapter in Rockford. The ERV headed out to Columbus, Ohio, to a staging area, and then was deployed from Columbus to the affected areas. Even as the Red Cross prepares its responses to Hurricane Isabel, its Disaster Relief Fund has hit its lowest level in more than a decade. You can help the Red Cross assist victims of thousands of disasters across the country each year by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, which enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to those in need. You may send your donation to Rock River Chapter, American Red Cross, 727 N. Church St., Rockford, Il. 61103.
