Lockwood Park volunteer rally

The Friends of Lockwood are asking for help!

They and the staff at the Rockford Park District’s Lockwood Park and Trailside Equestrian Centre in northwest Rockford will host a volunteer rally on Thursday, June 10 at the cookhouse at 5209 Safford Rd.

The Friends are looking for volunteers, ages 13 and older, to help keep the unique facility open by helping with maintenance and cleaning of the facility and caring for the numerous farm animals.

This is a great opportunity for youth groups, church groups, etc., to lend a helping hand to a place where children can see farm animals and learn about how food is produced.

Volunteers can select any day of the week or weekend to donate their time to help the animals stay at Lockwood. The volunteer rally will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

The Lockwood and Atwood Park facilities and programs were scheduled for the chopping block by the Park District due to budget restraints. Friends of both facilities have developed fund-raising groups to save the programming and facilities.
