The 3rd Annual Ms. Wheelchair Illinois Pageant will be Friday, March 19 and Saturday, March 20, 2004.
The Ms. Wheelchair Illinois Pageant is not a beauty contest; instead, the pageant celebrates women who use a wheelchair for a primary means of mobility and who have goals, dreams and accomplishments they are able to articulate to the community. All women who enter the pageant must be from the state of Illinois and between the ages of 21 and 65.
The current Ms. Wheelchair Illinois is Theresa Campbell, 26, from Chicago. She is in a wheelchair as a result of a spinal cord injury from spina bifida. She currently works at Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital as a Life Planning coordinator. During this year, she participated in the Ms. Wheelchair America Pageant and was a runner-up. In our state, she has talked at a number of hospitals, schools and conventions. Organizations that would like her to speak to them should contact Julie Zvitkovits, Speaking Engagement coordinator, at (708) 633-6277.
Contestants can contact Michelle McKeever, state coordinator, at (708) 687-0444 or Therese Temborius, coordinator for contestants, at (309) 274-5287. Deadline for applicants is Dec. 31, 2003. Also, check out the National Ms. Wheelchair America Web site at www.mswheelchairamerica.org
