Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program begins

The City of Rockford Human Services Department Energy Division is offering utility assistance to qualified households in Winnebago and Boone counties beginning Wednesday, Nov. 1. All Winnebago and Boone counties households that are income qualified, as well as income-qualified households occupied by senior citizens, a person collecting Social Security disability, and households that are disconnected with one or more utilities, may qualify for assistance. The LIHEAP program will make payments on the applicant’s behalf directly to their utility suppliers to ease the burden of winter heating costs.

The Human Services Department of the City of Rockford is the Community Action Agency serving Winnebago and Boone counties. It operates and maintains programs and activities specifically designed to help people become more self-sustaining. These services include: Head Start, Community Services Division and Energy.
