Lula’s Vintage Boutique welcomes Los Angeles-based, all-female Cheap Trick tribute band Cheap Chick to Rockford.

Cheap Chick is traveling to Cheap Trick’s hometown for the ultimate battle of the bands—to play Illinois’ largest music festival…the day after Cheap Trick.

Cheap Chick will be playing on the Oasis Stage at Rockford’s On the Waterfront Festival starting at 7:15 p.m., Friday, Sept. 2.

Cheap Chick is made up of four foxy women devoted to emulating the golden era of Cheap Trick and stadium rock. Pam (Pam Cheatersson) Moore started her longtime adoration of the band with pre-teen mooning over Robin and Tom after “In Color” came out.

Judy (Bunni Carlos) Cocuzza saved her allowance for months to buy a black satin Cheap Trick jacket to wear at her first Cheap Trick concert as a 14-year-old.

Robin (Chick Nielsen) Beacham learned to play guitar as a youngster by playing along to the “(Live) at Budokan” LP and a young Kristi (Robbin’ Zander) Callan didn’t just idolize Robin Zander, she wanted to be Robin Zander.

“We may not be the real thing,” says guitarist Robin Beacham, a.k.a. Chick Nielsen, “there’s only one Cheap Trick. But we adore the band and love playing their music, and it’s the ultimate thrill to pretend to be them right on their stomping grounds.”

Cheap Chick has a sense of humor to match the band they imitate. They realize the inherent irony of being rock star impersonators, and revel in their never-ending quest for tribute band realism.

The women of Cheap Chick have the chops as well as the attitude; they nail the songs with force and serve it all up with a healthy dose of a true love for the world’s greatest power pop band—Cheap Trick.

“We’ve got some surprises up our sleeve,” says singer Kristi Callan/Robbin’ Zander. “We’ve played some amazing shows in the past, but nothing like this. We’re going to pull out some interesting stuff—two sets with a great mix of hits and deeper cuts, including some well-loved songs that Cheap Trick themselves rarely play.”

Cheap Chick will be available for a meet and greet autograph signing at Lula’s Vintage Boutique, 221 E. State St., in downtown Rockford from 6 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 1.
