Machesney Park named a Tree City

The National Arbor Day Foundation has named the Village of Machesney Park a Tree City USA in recognition of the Machesney Park program to care for community trees. This is the 18th year the village has received this honor.

A Tree City USA is required to have a tree care ordinance, a department responsible for implementing a comprehensive community forestry program and an Arbor Day observance.

This year’s Arbor Day observance will be held on Friday, April 30, at the Machesney Park Village Hall, 300 Machesney Rd., at 11:30 a.m.

The observance will include the reading of a proclamation, proclaiming Arbor Day in the Village by Mayor Linda Vaughn. A tree planting with the assistance of the Harlem High School Horticulture Class will also mark this occasion.

The public is invited to attend.
