Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk Oct. 13

Join the fight against breast cancer by participating in the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk Saturday, Oct. 13, at Martin Park in Loves Park. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the walk kicks off at 9 a.m.

The Sixth Annual Strides 5K walk is expected to draw more than 2,000 survivors and supporters in an effort to educate the public about the disease and raise funds during Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October. The Strides walk celebrates cancer survivors while honoring those in the community who lost their battle with breast cancer.

This inspiring and heartwarming event is free and non-competitive, but participants are encouraged to collect donations and pledges. Every stride puts the American Cancer Society a step closer to finding a cure for this disease.

Last year across the United States, more than 450,000 walkers in 112 cities raised more than $40 million to support the American Cancer Society’s breast cancer research programs and local services for patients and their families. More than 2,000 people from the Rockford area participated in last year’s walk in Loves Park, raising more than $185,000 for the Illinois Division of the American Cancer Society.

For more about forming a team, to volunteer at the event or to register for survivor activities, go to, e-mail or call the Rockford office of the American Cancer Society at (815) 229-1287.
