March 15 deadline for Writers' Guild's Ides of March contest

The Rockford Writers’ Guild has announced its annual “Ides of March” prose and poetry contest rules.

Works entered should offer fresh insight into the universal challenges individuals face. Deadline is March 15, the Ides of March.

Cash prizes will be determined by the fees collected, and all money will be returned as prizes. The 2006 contest drew entries nationwide; prizes ranged from $75 to $10.

Only original, unpublished, typed works will be accepted. A $5 fee is applied for each prose entry (up to 1,300 words), and a $5 fee for every three poems (up to 50 lines each). Multiple submissions will be accepted.

Entries must have a cover letter with the contestant’s name, address, phone number, e-mail (if available), title of work, word count (if prose), a brief author bio, and a self-addressed, stamped envelope for results.

Youth entries (18 years and younger) must include age and school.

Names should not appear on manuscript pages, as manuscripts will be judged anonymously. Entries will not be returned.

Winners will be considered for publication in the 2007 summer edition of The Rockford Review, and will be invited to the Guild’s Gala Banquet July 15 at the Clock Tower Resort in Rockford.

Entries should be mailed to The Rockford Writers’ Guild, c/o Ides of March Contest, P.O. Box 858, Rockford, IL 61105.

From the Feb. 28-March 6, 2007, issue
