March is Womens History Month. What better way to celebrate than by supporting the events in this area.
For starters, Thursday, March 22, check out Rockford Urban Ministries Professional Women at Bethany United Methodist Church, 410 8th St. Speakers include Kathy Spataro, Organic Farms; the Rev. Nancy Rethford, UMC Minister; Kathryn Engel Terasaki, RPS Fine Arts coordinator; and Gwen Gulley, attorney/politician.
Womansong Chorale, under the direction of Dorothy Paige-Turner, will sing a selection of songs with lyrics to delight and inspire. Some of the favorites are The Water is Wide, We Shall Not be Moved, Evry Time I Feel the Spirit and As Long as I Have Music and three new selections especially for this event: A Teachers Lament, Bread and Roses and Hold On! The lyrics of these songs have withstood the test of time, and are sure to move you with their tender and hard-edged lyrics.
Another exciting event for Womens History Month is the Womanspace Book Fair, to be held at Barnes & Noble, Rockford, all day March 24. A percentage of net sales will be donated to Womanspace. Enjoy special in-store events, such as painting demonstrations, book readings, signings, discussions, an art gallery and more.
