Mayor’s Arts Awards nominees represent the best in Rockford

The nominations are in for this year’s Mayor’s Arts Awards.

In the Individual Artist category, nominees are Tom Asher, Jodi Beach, Michael Bugler, Ingrid Neuhofer Dohm, Julie Seger and Stephen Vrtol III. This fantastic group represents music, visual and the performing arts very well.

Businesses nominated include AMCORE Bank, Aqua-Aerobic Systems, C & E Specialties, Engine Studios, Main Street Financial Group and Rockford Health System. These nominees positively impact the arts community, not only with generous contributions, but with invaluable dedication of time and talent.

Dick and Lon Behr, Wendy Fisher, Charlotte Hackin and Scott Prine have been nominated in the Individual Arts Advocate category. Each of these nominees has given tremendously to this city.

The events nominated this year are quite impressive, too, and include the following:

2006 Chandler Starr Miller Scholarship Competition presented by the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center (MPAC);

Chanticleer Concert and Outreach, also presented by MPAC;

Godspell by Bethesda Covenant Church;

Honor the Mounds Gathering by the Native American Awareness Committee;

Inspired to Paint Art Show by Barbara Olson Center of Hope;

Moonlight Jazz Orchestra at the Kiwanis Brat Days by the Moonlight Jazz Orchestra;

Rockford Celebrates Mozart Collaboration;

Rockford Symphony Orchestra Waterfront’s Symphony Soiree by On The Waterfront; and

Les Miserables: School Edition presented by Y Knot Productions.

Exceptional Student nominees include Eric Lander, Alex Lantz and Natalie Seger, Kausika Maddali, Amy Nyberg and Michael Stanley. Watch for these names in lights!

Jack Armstrong, Mike Beert, Margaret Faust, Mary Jeanne Kuchenmeister, Charles Matlock and Ann Rundall round out the category of Star Teacher.

The Mayor’s Arts Awards are at 5 p.m., Thursday, June 8 at Coronado Theatre, 314 N. Main St. Cost to attend is $40 at the door, $35 prior to the event and $30 for Arts Council members. For more information, call 963-6765.
