Mayor’s Thanksgiving celebration Nov. 23

The 14th Annual Mayor’s Thanksgiving Celebration will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, at Memorial Hall Auditorium, 211 N. Main St., presented by Rockford Interfaith Council and Rockford Mayor’s office.

This year’s theme is “Connecting Neighbors” and will include songs, readings and prayers from the various faiths of Rockford. Guest speaker will be Paul Whitham, president of the Rockford Interfaith Council.

This will be the 14th Interfaith Thanksgiving celebration in Rockford. Last year’s program was attended by 550 people. This year’s celebration is planned by members of the Rockford Interfaith Council, which includes Christians, Jews, Hindus, Unitarian Universalists, Buddhists, Muslims and Bahais.

The hall is handicapped accessible through the ground floor entrance on the east side of the building. Refreshments will be provided. Music will be provided by Carl Cole.

The program is free and open to the public. Food for the Rock River Pantry will be accepted at the door. A free-will offering will be taken for the Hunger Connection.
