• Annual event continues through March; donations can be made at area Kelley Williamson stations
Country music star and cookbook author Naomi Judd has joined Meals on Wheels Association of America and its local programs nationwide for their annual March For Meals campaign, continuing through the end of March.
Ive spent most of my life cooking for people I love, Judd said. And I know the joy of sharing a good, healthy meal with family and friends. Sadly, not everyone is so lucky.
Judd is featured on posters and in radio public service announcements supporting this years March For Wheels campaign.
Each year during March For Wheels, Meals on Wheels programs nationwide work to raise public awareness of senior nutrition issues, raise funds to enable the provision of their meal services, and recruit volunteers to assist in the delivery of those services to a growing population.
For the second year, Lifescape Community Services Meals on Wheels is partnering with Kelley Williamson and will be placing donation containers at local Kelleys Market locations. Containers will be in stores through March 31.
Kris Kieper, assistant director of marketing and fund development for Lifescape Community Services, said: Every day, hundreds of thousands of older adults, some of whom live right here in our community, go hungry. We are working hard to change this, and we are succeeding, but we need your help. Every person can make a difference, from donating, to volunteering, to educating yourself and others about senior hunger issues.
Senior nutrition programs nationwide provide congregate and home-delivered meal services for elderly people in need. The Meals on Wheels Association of America is a national organization whose mission is to provide visionary leadership and professional training for Meals on Wheels programs nationwide, and to develop partnerships that will ensure the provision of quality nutrition services.
Lifescape Community Services is the only Meals on Wheels Association of America member serving Boone, Lee, Ogle and Winnebago counties. For more information, contact Kieper at 963-1609 or visit www.lifescapeservices.org.
