The Winnebago County Veterans In Memoriam Association expresses thanks to the community for its continued support in this years Memorial Day Parade. The Memorial Day Parade and Memoriam Ceremony will be Monday, May 28.
The parade will start at 9 a.m. with unit formation at 8:30 a.m. The parade will follow its customary route. Formation will be at Seventh Street utilizing Fourth through Sixth avenues for parade division line-ups. The parade will start at Seventh Street and Sixth Avenue and proceed north on Seventh Street; west on East State Street to West State and Wyman; north on North Wyman Street to Beattie Park, where it will disband. After the parade, a short memorial service will be conducted along the Rock River just south of the Jefferson Street bridge in front of the Rockford Public Library.
On Memorial Day, our nation honors its war dead from Revolutionary times through the present. More than 1.1 million Americans have laid down their lives for the freedoms our nation enjoys today. Currently, we have brave men and women fighting international terrorism in the Middle East, which threatens our nations way of life Several thousand of these brave Americans have given their lives for their country. As patriotic Americans, we celebrate and honor all of those soldiers who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
This years honorary parade marshal is William Bill Foster, a World War II and Pearl Harbor survivor. The parade chairman is Jeffrey Schroeder.
