Mendelssohn plays host to ‘Latin Landscape’ May 5

Friday, May 5, the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center (MPAC) will present “Latin Landscape,” a concert featuring the music and dance of South American and Spanish composers performed by the talented performing artists of the Mendelssohn Center.

Jacques Saint-Cyr and Maria Castello will dance traditional tangos. Featured musicians include Michael Beert, Owen Cox, Nanette Felix, Beth Fredrickson, Rachel Handlin, Joel Ross, Jacques Saint-Cyr and Philip R. Schalow.

“Latin Landscape” pays tribute to the musical contributions of South American and Spanish composers, honoring the rich musical diversity of the community.

MPAC is partnered with the Rockford Public Library’s citywide reading program, “One Book, One Rockford.” The featured book is A Place Where the Sea Remembers, by Sandra Benitez, winner of the 2004 Hispanic Heritage Award for Literature.

A meet-the-artists’ reception, featuring the cuisines of South America and Spain, will immediately follow the concert.
