Mendelssohn unveils schedule for 2006-07

Season kicks off with Sept. 15 performance by Poulenc in Paris

The 122nd season at the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center (MPAC) brings world-class musicians to the residents of northern Illinois in a varied and dynamic series of concerts and workshops.

The annual Guest Artist series features the Ahn Trio, a piano and strings trio the Seattle Times said “dazzles the audience;” the Three Celli, three cellists from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; and Awadagin Pratt, a native Illinois pianist the Washington Post said “shows flawless technique and intense emotional involvement.”

Bridget Fraser, executive director of MPAC, said: “This year’s season presents a broad spectrum of artists and performances that are accessible to anybody. Between the fabulous guest artists to the concerts by Mendelssohn Center’s own performing artists, anyone who enjoys music will be able to find something that suits their listening preferences.

“We’re particularly pleased to welcome The Ahn Trio, one of the hottest classical music groups around, to Rockford,” Fraser added. “These fine young musicians are opening up a whole new audience—the ‘MTV generation’—to classical music.”

Season subscriptions are on sale, and single-ticket sales begin Aug. 7.
