Men’s Wearhouse offers classy options for grooms

Although the theme of this week’s Vibe section is “Bridal,” much of the information and advice applies to men as well. Potential grooms have many options when it comes to formal wear, but they should keep Men’s Wearhouse in mind when making their decision.

Men’s Wearhouse, at 6250 Mulford Village Drive next to Kinko’s, features a wide selection of men’s clothing. Store manager Bill Mercurio explained the store carries everything from business casual to formal wear. Men’s Warehouse offers a variety of styles and sizes from several brands, including Pronto Uomo, Joseph & Feiss, Jones New York and The Bostonian.

Since opening five years ago, the business has grown in popularity and continually attracts customers with its upscale, yet inviting atmosphere. The prices are also surprisingly reasonable considering the quality of the products.

Some of the most notable items include suits, ties, polo shirts, dress shirts, socks, shoes, cologne, cufflinks and other accessories. Additionally, Mercurio said the store offers tuxedo rentals as well. He cited the two- and three-button suits as some of the store’s best-selling items. The suits come in an assortment of colors, but most are black, blue, gray or earth tones.

The arrival of spring also signals the upcoming prom and wedding seasons. According to Mercurio, this tends to be a “very active” time for Men’s Wearhouse. He believes this influx of business stems from advantages they have over other clothing stores. “We have a larger inventory than any other retailer,” he said.

The Rockford Men’s Wearhouse is part of a national chain owned by George Zimmer. The first store opened in 1973 in Houston, and since then the franchise has spread to Detroit, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and many other cities. The store’s Web site,, states its mission “is to maximize sales, provide value to our customers and deliver top quality customer service while still having fun and maintaining our values.” Mercurio seems to have adopted and embraced this ambitious philosophy.

Men’s Wearhouse is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Information: 397-7949.
