Mental Illness Awareness Week

In recognition of Mental Illness Awareness Week, Shelter Care Ministries once again will sponsor a fun-filled Harvest Fest celebration at the Jubilee Center, Rockford’s only drop-in center for adults who live with mental illness. The event takes place Thursday, Oct. 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the center at North Court Street and Park Avenue., just west of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Raffle tickets will be available for prizes including a five-day trip to the Bahamas with round-trip airfare for two, and four-nights at the Sheraton Our Lucaya Resort in Freeport. Second Prize is a 14-karat gold cross pendant valued at $400, and the third prize is $100 cash. Raffle tickets are $5 or three for $10. The Harvest Fest silent auction will feature products and services, including food items, local dining packages, theater tickets, travel packages, artwork, cookware, toys, gifts, clothing and gift certificates for everything from fast food to trees and shrubs. Ticket prices for the Harvest Fest are $15 for an individual or $35 for a family, and include admission and a full dinner of barbecued pork sandwiches with all the trimmings, vegetarian chili, hot dogs, dessert and soft drinks. Shelter Care Ministries is a faith-based ministry providing short-term help and long-term success to people in need. In addition to the Jubilee Center, which offers mentally ill homeless individuals linkage to treatment and a safe place to be five days a week, Shelter Care also assists homeless families in need of emergency or transitional housing and assistance.
