Military scholar speaks at Rockford College

Monday, March 27, at 4 p.m., Rockford College’s Forum Series will present Dr. Judith V. Reppy’s lecture titled “The Revolution in Military Affairs: A Science Studies Perspective,” and at 8 p.m., Reppy will present a lecture titled “Bioterrorism in a Historical Perspective.”

Both lectures are in Maddox Theatre of the Clark Arts Center on the campus of Rockford College.

The lectures are free and open to the public, but a reserved ticket is required. For more information, contact the Box Office at 815-226-4100. Clark Arts Center is accessible.

Reppy is a professor in the Department of Science and Technology Studies as well as associate director of the Peace Studies Program at Cornell University. Known for her studies of the economics of defense, security and peace, she has been a visiting fellow at Science & Technology Studies at Manchester University, the Science Policy Research Unit at Sussex University, and the Center for International Studies at MIT.

In 2002-03 Reppy served on the National Academy of Sciences’ committee on research standards, and practices to prevent the destructive application of biotechnology. Her current research includes responses to the risk of bioterrorism and issues surrounding the public understanding of science.
