Military service personnel Recognition Wall at CherryVale

CherryVale Mall management has announced that the Military Recognition Wall, across from the mall’s food court, is 95 percent complete. Currently, the Recognition Wall features 141 photographs of active-duty service men and women from the Rock River Valley. Photographs have been submitted from families and friends of military service personnel during the past two months. The Recognition Wall was created as a salute to area military men and women, with the first photographs placed on the wall March 20, the day the United States entered into war with Iraq.

In addition, a patriotic window display has been set up next to the Recognition Wall, featuring dress uniforms from the different branches of the military, along with the American flag.

Families or friends of active-duty men and women can still submit a non-returnable photo of their loved one (accepted photo sizes: 3″ x 5″, 4″ x 6″ or 5″ x 7″), along with the rank, branch of service, full name and hometown of the service man or woman. Submissions will be accepted via mail at the CherryVale Mall Management Office, Suite 5, Rockford, IL 61112, or can be dropped off at CherryVale Mall’s Customer Service Center between 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday, or 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. The photo and personal information needs to be submitted in an envelope and marked “Service Men/Women Recognition.” Submissions will be accepted until space on the Recognition Wall has been filled.

“We are hoping to have the Military Service Personnel Recognition Wall 100 percent complete by Monday, May 26, in time for Memorial Day! We have planned a small dedication ceremony at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 26, near the Recognition Wall to honor all active-duty military service personnel, in addition to past service men and women. The ceremony is open to the public, and we hope that the families and friends of the service men and women featured on the wall will attend,” said Cindy Hindes, CherryVale Mall marketing director.

Information: Call the CherryVale Mall Management Office at (815) 332-2451 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
