Moon Walk 2004 blasts off

The Rockford Health Council in collaboration with dozens of organizations in the tri-county area of Boone, Ogle and Winnebago counties have announced Moon Walk 2004 in response to a challenge from the Peoria region.

The goal of the event is to walk at least 477,400 miles—the distance from the Earth to the moon and back, in competition with a similar event in Peoria.

Moon Walk 2004 began April 1 and is scheduled to complete on Sept. 30. Registration will be held throughout the program.

Participants must be at least 18 years of age (unless walking with an adult 18 years of age or older); live or work in Boone, Ogle or Winnebago County; register to participate through either a group coordinator or Moon Walk Central at your local health department in Boone, Ogle or Winnebago County; and read, sign and submit a Moon Walk signup and participation waiver, available from participating organizations or your local health department.

To participate, contact one of the following Moon Walk county coordinators:

• Boone County Health Department—Cindi O’Neil, health educator, 1204 Logan Ave., Belvidere, 61008, 815-544-2951, ext. 240;
