Illinois will receive $100 million in federal dollars next year to expand the state’s Circuit Breaker program to another 368,000 seniors to aid them in getting prescription drugs.

Gov. George Ryan recently announced the federal award.

The expanded Circuit Breaker Prescription Program will apply to low and moderate-income seniors, giving them access to up to $1,750 in prescription medicines for a $3 co-payment. Prescriptions over that amount will require a 20 percent co-payment.

Ryan announced the expanded program will take effect June 1.

Seniors interested in additional information about the program, or an application, may call the Circuit Breaker toll-free hotline at 1-800-624-2459.
