Morrissey campaign announces Feb. 2 ‘Around the World’ fund-raiser

The Citizens for Morrissey campaign invites Rockford residents to a grassroots fund-raiser at Giovanni’s Restaurant, 610 N. Bell School Rd., on Wednesday, Feb. 2 from 6 – 9 p.m. The event, aptly named “Around the World in Rockford ’05: A Celebration of Rockford’s Ethnic & Cultural Diversity” includes food from numerous restaurants and live entertainment by a variety of local groups and artists commemorating the region’s mixture of backgrounds and interests.

“It’s an opportunity for all of us as Rockfordians to share and celebrate the finest of Rockford’s diverse, locally-owned eateries and culture,” said Independent Mayoral Candidate Larry Morrissey. “The things that make us different can really unite our community. We need to take pride in our diversity in order to move forward, that’s what my administration will be about.”

During the last campaign, in which Morrissey garnered 26 percent of the vote, this fund-raising event gathered more than 600 people throughout the evening. This year’s event planners expect the crowd to be even larger.

In addition to tempting their taste buds, attendees can bid on live and silent auction items, such as four one-week stays at a luxurious condo in Florida, and tickets to the Chicago Cubs, among others.

Live entertainment will include Saint Paul Choir, The Magical Mystery Tour, Harlan Jefferson and much more.

Individual tickets are $40 and are available in advance or at the door. For more information please call the Campaign Office, (815) 968-MORC (6672).
