‘Move Some Earth,’ ‘Turn the Tide,’ celebrate Earth Month

The Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) offers the following three ways to celebrate Earth Month in April…

1. Move Some Earth Day—Saturday, April 26, MREA will host Move Some Earth Day at the ReNew the Earth Institute in Custer, Wis. This will be a day of food, fun, community building, and service projects. Come help us get our facility ready for this year’s Renewable Energy and Sustainable Living Fair. Volunteers receive complimentary lunch and dinner. Schedule is as follows:

7:30-9 a.m.—Yoga

9:30 a.m.—Noon service projects

Noon-1 p.m.—Lunch

1 p.m.-5 p.m.—Service projects

6 p.m.—Vegetarian feast

7:30 p.m.—Bonfire

Information: contact Tehri at tehri@the-mrea.org.

2. Turn the Tide—Turn the Tide is a program of nine actions each person can take to have a measurable, positive impact on the environment—and it shows us this impact right away. We all know everyday people can make personal changes to help the environment; Turn the Tide explains what we can do and demonstrates how it will make a difference. We are participating in this program in partnership with the Center for a New American Dream, a national nonprofit that asked leading scientists and experts in the field of conservation what first steps they would ask Americans to take to reduce global warming, conserve water and energy, and save wildlife and forest habitats.

The nine actions are among those that matter most, can be measured accurately, and are realistically achievable for most people. When these nine basic actions are taken together by thousands of us, it has a significant impact on our environment. When these actions are reported and the cumulative impact is publicized, increasing numbers of Americans will be inspired to drop in and make waves.

3. Visit an Aveda Salon during Earth Month—Aveda is celebrating Earth Day with a month-long network-wide event that focuses on raising money and awareness to slow global warming and protect biodiversity. Aveda’s goal is to raise $750,000 for environmental organizations that preserve the Earth’s ecosystems by reducing global warming. Aveda has chosen MREA to be its nonprofit partner in the Wisconsin and Illinois region. That means when you purchase services or products from a participating salon in the month of April, a portion of your bill will be donated to the MREA.
