MT. MORRISThe Village of Mt. Morris will celebrate the Fourth of July with a firemans breakfast, community church service, patriotic program, bell-ringing ceremony, barbecues, band concert, two parades, and one of the areas largest fireworks displays. All events are free and offer all-day entertainment for the young and the young at heart.
The Mt. Morris Let Freedom Ring Festival Committee will host two parades Wednesday, July 4. The traditional Grand Parade is scheduled for 2 p.m., and a motorcycle (only) charity Independence Day Parade through Mt. Morris is scheduled at 11:30 a.m. to benefit Ogle County Lifeline Food Pantry. Registration for the Feed the Need Freedom Ride begins at 10 a.m. on the northeast corner of Illinois Highway 64 at the stoplight. Non-perishable food or a cash donation will be accepted for Lifeline at the time of registration. Paper products (including toilet paper, paper towels), dry laundry detergent, tomato products, noodles, crackers, canned soup and boxed potatoes are always needed by Lifeline.
2007 marks the 25th anniversary of Lifeline Food Pantrys service to Ogle County. Approximately 1,200 Ogle County residents are served each month by Lifeline.
Registration enters participants in a drawing for a $100 gift certificate donated by a Mt. Morris resident and Let Freedom Ring supporter purchased from Workmans Harley Davidson in Rock Falls. Lineup will be on South McKendrie. The Feed the Need Freedom Ride will begin at 11:30 a.m. To accommodate the Community Worship Service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the band shell, motorcyclists are requested to save the roar of their motorcycles for the freedom ride out of respect for worshippers.
Deputy Dewey from the Ogle County Sheriffs Department will lead the parade, riding the departments new Harley Davidson motorcycle. The parade will follow the route of the Grand Parade, which begins at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 4. The motorcycle parade will make two passes on the parade during the ride. Spectators should be in place for the parade by 11:15 a.m. Participants are requested to decorate their entries with American flags and red, white and blue decorations.
