Mud Creek Music Fest: Something for everybody

Mud Creek Music Fest: Something for everybody

National and regional performers again gather at Rockford’s YMCA Camp Winnebago for the second annual Mud Creek Music Fest. The event will be held July 26, 27 and 28.

Headliners include Lou and Peter Berryman, Dave Moore, Mark Dvorak, The Reedy Buzzards, Sons of the Never Wrong and One Drum. Musical styles range from Tex-Mex to blues, from gospel to traditional and contemporary folk.

The folk music and family-oriented event is collaboration between several local musical entities. Charlotte’s Web for the Performing Arts, Backpack Concerts, Rock River Friends of Folk and Digeridoo Productions pooled their musical muscle and joined with the YMCA staff to program and organize this year’s festival.

The weekend-long event offers camping, daytime kids’ crafts, kids’ music and other activities. Daytime music includes a variety of mini concerts featuring the main stage performers in a more intimate setting. These short programs usually feature several artists performing songs centered around a particular theme: love songs, women’s music, guitar styles, etc. The Camp Winnebago staff is also offering supervised rock climbing and the popular “Splash Fountain” water feature. Daytime is also a great time to explore Camp Winnebago, picnic, or shop the festival store.

Festivities begin Friday night with casual campfire music for the campers. Regular activities begin Saturday at noon, the Saturday main stage concert is at 6 p.m. Sunday programming begins at 11 a.m., and the main concert is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. Concerts often end with a finale featuring many performers.

Two separate campfire activity areas will open immediately after the main stage concert. Sing along at the first campfire. The second campfire area will feature a drumming circle—don’t miss the chance to participate!

Advance tickets are $20 for a weekend pass and $12 for a single day. Tickets can be purchased at the YMCA or online at Tickets will also be available at the gate for $25 and $15. Camp Winnebago is located at 5804 N. Main St., Rockford.
